The ATS took note of this organization during a recent tradeshow event. The organization is developing a global network aiming to enhance food safely practices and certification standards, and is an excellent resource for Canadian companies. Tina Brillinger, President and Founder, explains below why food safety has become an important issue for the agri-food industry and how the Global Food Safety Resource Centre is providing support.

Food safety concerns dominate the news, with substantial media attention given to events which can affect the quality of the food supply.

These events have heightened consumer's awareness and their concerns over the safety of the food supply.  All of this has become of paramount importance to producers, food processing companies and retailers. When it comes to food safety 'adverse' events, issues can have a detrimental economic impact on food producers and agri-food businesses -- and puts brands at risk -- affecting the entire food industry.

As a result, governments and businesses from around the world are stepping up efforts to protect people, implementing advanced testing requirements and import controls on certain food products that are at greater risk.

Food Safety Going Global … a New Website Has Launched!

Increasing global food production, along with global processing, distribution and preparation, are creating demands for more effective and cohesive safety measures. Could one global standard for food safety be feasible?

To this end, a new website has been launched… the Global Food Safety Resource Centre (GFSR) is a business-to-business, global network of people and information that can help businesses develop safe food practices or adopt certification standards. GFSR offers a comprehensive overview of food safety, and pools trusted resources that provide invaluable information to the food industry.

Businesses can search for food safety specialists or service providers tailored to their specific requirements, and feel confident knowing each Specialists' credentials have been 3rd party verified. In addition, we offer a number of informative resources and multi-media that Members can tap into for free, becoming an open and transparent resource for industry to turn to.

With a growing membership coming from more than 53 countries, combined with new qualified Food Safety Specialists populating our Global Food Safety Network from around the world – this validates the fact that food safety is critical to all of us.  Every culture and every country around the globe is concerned about the safety of our food supply — and maybe a global standard for food safety is becoming closer than we think!

If you are a Food Safety Specialist who is willing to share your expertise, consider registering your credentials on the Global Food Safety Network; designed to help industry stakeholders search for food safety specialists according to their business requirements.
